William Kory      1994 – Present

William Kory was elected to serve on Southmont Council in 1994 and re-elected in 1998, 2002 and 2006. He and his wife Mary Ann have been residents of the Borough for over 30 years. Both their children, Steve and Larissa grew up in the Borough and attended elementary and high schools in the area. Mr. Kory has a Doctorate Degree from the University of Pittsburgh and teaches geography at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He is the chair of the Department and editor of THE PENNSYLVANIA GEOGRAPHER, a peer reviewed journal of the Pennsylvania Geographical Society. He has traveled extensively throughout the world and has given numerous talks to local organizations. Mr. Kory chaired the committee which administered the restoration of Chapin Arch, a historic stone structure in Southmont built in 1910. After restoration, the arch was turned over to the Southern Alleghenies Conservancy which maintains it. In addition to chairing that committee, Mr. Kory chaired a number of other committees on Council, including recycling, buildings and grounds, Grandview Cemetery, insurance and recreation.
