Shade Trees
Bare Root Tree Grant
Each year, Southmont Borough applies for the Pennsylvania Bare Root Tree Grant, a program that provides municipalities with the opportunity to receive up to 20 bare root trees at no cost. The trees are planted throughout the Borough on public property or within municipal rights-of-way, helping to replace trees that have previously been removed and enhance the Borough’s streetscapes and green spaces. Through this annual program, the Borough continues to expand and maintain its community tree canopy while investing in the long-term beauty and environmental health of Southmont. If you would like to request a shade tree through this grant, please submit a Shade Tree Work Permit to the borough by December 31st of each year to be included in the following years grant request.
Shade Tree Permits
Southmont Borough Ordinance #538 provides for the regulation and protection of shade trees. Maintenance, transplanting and removal of shade trees shall be the responsibility of the owner of the real estate abutting the land where shade trees are located. While, minor cutting, trimming and pruning shall be permitted without notification to the Borough, no person shall perform major cutting, pruning, trimming, or complete removal without a permit. Permits are available below or at the borough office. There is no cost for the permits, but they are required.
